One of my highlights this month was meeting Creator of the Women on Bikes SoCal initiative, mover & shaker, writer & fashionista – Melissa Balmer. Not only did Melissa introduce me to the terms, “Car-Free”, and “Car-Lite” (referring to living a life that’s either completely or partially abandoned using an automobile), but she successfully inspired me to move forward with plans to ditch my four gas-dependent wheels for two green ones – at least when running around-town errands or staying within a few miles from home.

While sipping my favorite Earl Grey Lavender tea at the Green House, our mutual favorite “coffee shop-office”, Melissa talked about future plans for Women On Bikes, her past experience in Fashion, and time spent in Italy during her college days. “Ou! Parla l’italiano”, I asked in excitement. “Si, parlo l’italiano…” she began speaking fluently, causing my face to turn red and admit I’d forgotten most of the Italian I picked up during my brief time abroad. Despite not being able to converse in a Romance language, I was fascinated by everything Melissa continued to talk about. Photographing powerful women in support of Women On Bikes, such as Vice Mayor of Long Beach, Suja Lowenthal, has helped bring more awareness to the initiative. But there’s much more in store for Women On Bikes SoCal.

Cycle Chic – An Urban Bike Fashion Show, expected to bring crowds by the hundreds to the Promenade in Downtown Long Beach on September 13th, 2012 – is the next big project in store. Cycle Chic will feature several designers, including Rebecca Michaels & Violet Love – an undeniably perfect solution for the active woman who needs to be comfortable but wants to stay stylish.Tickets for the event go on sale in early July for as little as $10.00. VIP tickets start at $75.00 and include beer tasting, appetizers, elbow rubbing with the elite, and much more.
As some of you know, Rebecca Michaels, much like Women on Bikes SoCal, is just getting started….so stayed tuned for the comfort you crave and the style you can’t compromise. It’s what you’ve been waiting for and we’re all about – don’t miss out!
